There’s something about summer that changes the rhythm of life.
Schedules shift.
Later Bedtimes.
Vacations.
The structure we’ve relied on all year suddenly loosens.
And while there’s something beautiful about that slower, more spontaneous rhythm…
It can also leave us feeling a little untethered.
Maybe you’ve felt it too.
You start the summer with good intentions:
- more quality time with family
- healthier habits
- deeper quiet time with God
- intentional mornings
- meaningful memories
- maybe even making progress on a few personal goals
But then life gets full.
And suddenly:
- routines disappear
- days blur together
- you feel behind
- and you find yourself slipping into survival mode instead of truly enjoying the season
If you’re already feeling that tension as summer approaches, you are not alone.
But I also want to remind you of something:
Summer changing your routine doesn’t have to mean losing your intentionality.
The Goal Isn’t Perfection—It’s Presence
One of the biggest mistakes we make this time of year is believing we need to “keep up” with our normal routines exactly as they were before summer began.
But this season is different.
And that’s okay.
Intentional living isn’t about rigid schedules or perfectly color-coded routines.
It’s about staying connected to:
- what matters most
- who you want to become
- and how God is inviting you to live in this season
The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is presence.
Instead of Trying to Control Summer… Create Gentle Rhythms
I’ve learned that summer works better when we stop trying to force structure…
and instead create simple rhythms that support the kind of season we want to experience.
Not overwhelming systems.
Just intentional anchors.
Things like:
- morning quiet time before everyone wakes up
- evening walks with the family
- a gratitude practice before bed (this is our fave!)
- a weekly reset
- intentional phone-free time
- planning meaningful experiences ahead of time
- creating space to reflect and dream
Small rhythms help us stay connected to ourselves even when life feels less structured.
Don’t Forget Yourself This Summer
This is the reminder I keep coming back to personally.
As women, it’s so easy to spend summer focused entirely on everyone else:
- making the memories
- coordinating the plans
- keeping everyone happy
- carrying the mental load
And somewhere along the way…
we quietly stop caring for ourselves too.
Not intentionally.
Just gradually.
But friend?
You matter in this season too.
Your spiritual life matters.
Your peace matters.
Your health matters.
Your dreams matter.
You are allowed to create space for those things this summer.
Not from pressure.
Not from striving.
But because you are worth caring for too.
A Different Kind of Summer Is Possible
What if this summer didn’t have to feel rushed, reactive, or disconnected?
What if you created:
- moments of rest
- meaningful memories
- space to hear from God
- rhythms that support your peace
- and small faithful steps toward the life you want to build
Not perfectly.
Just intentionally.
Because you don’t need a perfect routine to have a meaningful summer.
You simply need rhythms that help you stay connected to what matters most.
