Spending time with God isn’t supposed to feel like another obligation on your checklist.
It’s meant to be the most life-giving part of your day—the place where you remember who you are and Whose you are.

But let’s be honest:
Even when we want that connection, building a consistent quiet time can feel hard.

The alarm goes off, the kids wake up early, the notifications start buzzing…and before you know it, the day is in full swing without a single moment of quiet.

If you’ve struggled to create a rhythm you actually look forward to, you’re not alone. And you’re not failing.

Here’s the good news:
Quiet time doesn’t have to be complicated—or perfect.

With a little intention and a lot of grace, you can build a practice that feels peaceful, sustainable, and deeply personal.

Why Quiet Time Matters

Quiet time isn’t about checking a box or impressing God with spiritual discipline.

It’s about:

  • Centering your heart in truth
  • Surrendering your plans
  • Listening for His voice
  • Refueling your spirit so you can pour into others

Even 10–15 minutes of focused time with Him can change how you walk through your day.

5 Steps to Build a Quiet Time You’ll Love

1️⃣ Keep It Simple

We often make quiet time harder than it needs to be.

Start small:

  • Read one passage of Scripture
  • Write down one reflection
  • Pray one honest prayer

You can always grow the habit later—but first, just begin.

2️⃣ Choose a Time You Can Protect

Look at your daily rhythm and ask:
When am I least likely to be interrupted?

Maybe it’s early morning.
Maybe it’s during lunch or nap time.
Maybe it’s right before bed.

The “best” time is simply the time you’ll actually show up.

Tip: Treat this like any other important appointment. Put it in your planner or set a reminder on your phone.

3️⃣ Create a Space You Enjoy

A dedicated space helps you get in the right mindset.

You don’t need a fancy setup. Start with:

  • A cozy chair or a sunny spot by the window
  • A candle or worship playlist
  • Your favorite journal and Bible

I love keeping my Bible, journal, and Book Club reading together in a bag, so I can carry it out to the back deck on pretty days. It makes quiet time feel like a treat instead of a chore.

Pick a Simple Framework

If you’re not sure what to do during quiet time, pick a basic structure:

Read: A short passage or devotional
Reflect: What is God highlighting? How does it apply to your life?
Respond: Pray or journal about what you’ve read

This helps you stay focused without feeling overwhelmed.

Give Yourself Grace

Some days will feel rich and meaningful.
Others will feel rushed or distracted.

It’s okay.

The point isn’t perfection—it’s consistency.
Every small moment you spend with God is planting seeds you can’t always see yet.

One Last Encouragement

You don’t have to have the “perfect” quiet time to grow in faith.

Show up as you are.
Offer what you have.
And trust that God will meet you there.

“The Dreamer Community has truly transformed my life by giving me a sense of organization and vision I didn’t have before. What sets it apart is how personal it feels—women openly share what they’re going through, which encourages and inspires the rest of us. It helps so much to know that others have either been where I am or are walking through similar struggles. Being part of these honest conversations in our Zoom meetings has grown my faith, because it’s so evident that God is faithful.”
