How One Simple Practice Is Shifting My Heart—and My Home

It started as a small bedtime routine.

Each night, my son Ben and I grab our journals and reflect on our day. We each write down three specific things we’re grateful for, then take turns sharing them with each other. Some days it’s deep and reflective. Other days, it’s silly and sweet. But every day, it grounds us.

What began as a simple habit has become one of the most meaningful parts of our day.

And it’s reminded me of this truth:

Gratitude shifts everything.

Why Gratitude Matters

Gratitude isn’t just about being polite or positive—it’s a perspective shift that changes how we experience life.

When you cultivate gratitude:

  • Your mind begins to notice what’s good instead of only what’s lacking.
  • Your heart softens, even in hard seasons.
  • Your conversations become more life-giving.
  • Your stress begins to untangle.

It doesn’t mean ignoring struggle. It means anchoring yourself in what’s also true:
That even in the messy middle, there are still moments worth celebrating.

What Gratitude Looks Like in Real Life

Gratitude doesn’t have to be fancy or filtered.
In our home, it sounds like:

  • “I’m grateful for sunshine after days of rain.”
  • “I’m thankful I finished that hard thing today.”
  • “I loved laughing at dinner together.”
  • “I’m so glad for quiet moments just before bed.”

These little reflections have helped Ben and me end our day with peace, perspective, and connection. And over time, it’s training both of our hearts to look for the good—on purpose.

A Favorite Tool: The iBloom Gratitude Journal

To make this practice simple and sustainable, I created the iBloom Gratitude Journal—a beautiful space to record 3 things you’re grateful for each day.

Whether you use it on your own, with your kids, or as part of your quiet time, it’s a powerful tool for building a habit of noticing and naming the good.

It’s the kind of journal you’ll want to keep and look back on—because it captures the beauty of life’s everyday blessings.

Want to Begin a Gratitude Practice?

Here’s a simple way to start:

  1. Pick a consistent time—morning coffee, end of day, before bed
  2. Grab your iBloom Gratitude Journal or a notebook (Tip: Leave it visible, so it’s not easily forgotten. Mine stays on my nightstand.)
  3. Write down 3 specific things you’re thankful for from that day
  4. Bonus: Share your list with someone in your life

Specificity is key. “I’m grateful for my family” is good. But “I’m grateful for how my son hugged me today when I was tired” is powerful.

Reflect & Reset

Take a moment today to pause and reflect:

  • What’s one thing you’re thankful for today—right now?
  • What would shift in your heart if gratitude became part of your daily rhythm?
  • Who could you invite into a gratitude practice with you?

If you’re looking for a way to reset your mindset, deepen your connection with God and others, and walk through your days with more peace and joy—gratitude is a beautiful place to begin.

Let’s choose to notice. Let’s choose to name it.
Because the good is already there—gratitude just helps us see it.
