As summer approaches, it’s easy to begin making quiet promises to ourselves.
This summer will be different.
I’ll be more present with my family.
I’ll finally have time to work on that goal I’ve been putting off.
I’ll spend more time with God.
At the same time, many women are already looking ahead to fall as their next opportunity to start fresh. They tell themselves they’ll get serious about their goals when school starts back, when life feels more structured, or when the busyness of summer is behind them.
I’ve certainly been there.
The challenge is that summer has a way of slipping by faster than we expect. We enter the season with the best intentions, but somewhere between vacations, camps, ballgames, family gatherings, and the day-to-day demands of life, the weeks begin to blur together. Before we know it, we’re shopping for school supplies, wondering where the summer went, and wishing we had been a little more intentional with the time we’ve been given.
What if this year could be different?
What if, instead of spending the summer trying to keep your head above water, you entered the season with clarity about what matters most and a plan to stay connected to it?
Summer Doesn’t Have to Pull You Off Course
One of the biggest misconceptions we have about intentional living is believing that it only works when life is predictable.
We tend to think we can pursue our goals, establish healthy habits, and prioritize what matters most once life settles down. Yet the truth is that life rarely stays settled for long. Every season brings its own opportunities, challenges, and distractions.
Summer simply happens to bring a different set of them.
The women who continue to grow through every season aren’t necessarily the women with the most time, the most margin, or the most organized schedules. More often, they’re the women who have learned how to stay anchored to their priorities even when life looks different than usual.
They understand that intentional living isn’t about maintaining a perfect routine. It’s about continually returning to what matters most.
The Woman You Want to Be This Fall Is Being Formed Right Now
Imagine yourself at the end of August.
The pace of summer is beginning to wind down. School routines are returning. The calendar is becoming more predictable again.
How do you want to feel?
Do you want to feel frustrated that another season passed without making progress on the things that matter most to you? Or would you rather look back and see a summer filled with meaningful memories, steady growth, and small but significant steps toward the life God is calling you to live?
The woman you hope to become this fall isn’t created when the season changes. She’s being formed today through the choices you make, the priorities you protect, and the habits you practice.
She’s being shaped every time you choose a conversation over distraction, every time you spend a few quiet moments with the Lord before the day begins, and every time you take one small step toward a goal that matters to you.
The future version of you isn’t waiting for September to arrive. She’s being built in the ordinary moments of June, July, and August.
Instead of Waiting for Fall, Prepare for Summer
Before the season gets busy, I want to encourage you to pause and think intentionally about what you want this summer to look like.
Not just what you want to do.
Not just where you want to go.
But who you want to become.
What kind of memories do you want to create with your family?
What habits would help you feel healthy, energized, and connected to God?
What goals are important enough that you don’t want to put them on hold for the next three months?
When you begin with those questions, summer becomes more than a season to get through. It becomes a season you can steward well.
That doesn’t mean every day will go according to plan. It doesn’t mean you’ll execute everything perfectly. It simply means you’re choosing to enter the season with purpose rather than drifting into it by default.
A Few Questions to Consider
As you prepare for summer, spend a little time reflecting on these questions:
- What matters most to me in this season?
- What do I hope is true about my life by the end of the summer?
- What simple rhythms will help me stay connected to my priorities?
- What could I say no to so I can say yes to what matters most?
You don’t need a complicated plan. Often, a few intentional decisions made ahead of time can dramatically change how an entire season unfolds.
Don’t Wait Until Fall to Become Her
Friend, the woman you want to be this fall is not created by a new season, a fresh planner, or a more organized schedule. She is created through the small, faithful choices you make today.
That’s why I don’t want you to wait until September to begin again.
I want you to enter this summer with purpose. I want you to create memories you’ll treasure, deepen your relationship with God, care for the people you love, and continue becoming the woman He has created you to be.
Because summer doesn’t have to be a season that pulls you away from your priorities. With a little intention, it can become a season that moves you closer to them.
