High Performance Academy Biggest Takeaways

Last week, my hubby and I attended Brendon Burchard’s High Performance Academy. It was an incredible event. I left with 50+ pages of notes, numerous ah-ha’s, and a determination to make my goals a reality. (Side note: There were things said and done at this event that don’t fit my belief system. However, there was still so much value! I personally just filtered it through my Christian belief system – taking the things that were amazing and leaving the rest). I worked HARD to condense everything down into my four biggest takeaways from High Performance Academy.

#1: “I get to choose who I want to be and how I want to show up in the world.”

This is a concept that I first learned from Brendon’s book, High Performance Habits. (This was one of my FAVE books of 2018!) He challenged us to choose three words to describe the best of who we are or who we desire to be. I started by writing out all of the words that described who I really wanted to be. Then, after several days, I narrowed it down to these words: Inspiring, Joyful, Intentional.

My husband was a little surprised that I chose those words because he felt like I already embodied them. However, I know that God has been nudging me to live into them more fully. Once I had my words, I then created bullet points under each word to describe how I wanted to live into it. I have them posted on my computer, so I’m reminding myself daily how I want to show up in the world.

#2: “What is required to be of service here and how can I grow into that?”

One major thing that sets apart successful people is they always find a way. They ask the question, “What is required to be of service here and how can I grow into that?” When something isn’t working for a successful person, they don’t stop. Instead, they assess the situation to discover what they can learn and how to best move forward. So much of success starts with our mindset and really believing that we can be successful. Once we believe that it’s possible, then we start becoming the type of person needed to succeed.

#3: “You need a purpose to stay healthy.”

Woah! Isn’t that powerful and so true?!  It’s not until we have a sense of purpose and we see how our health impacts that purpose, that we then have a powerful motivation to make healthier choices. I spent so much of my life making unhealthy choices: eating food that didn’t fuel my body, sitting at my desk most of the day, not getting enough sleep, and working to the point of burnout. As my health suffered, I realized what a significant impact it was having on fulfilling my purpose. So, I made a decision two years ago to take control of my health. It’s been two years of developing healthy habits that then allow me to be the wife, mom, and leader I want to be.

#4: “What are the 3 main things required to succeed?”

I loved this question because it can be applied to any role that we have. Here are a few ways that I’ve used it so far:

  • What are the 3 main things required to succeed in being the wife & mom I desire to be?
  • What are the 3 main things required to succeed in my Plexus business?

You could use this question as a template for any role in your life where you want to succeed.
